Shian Taris: ::Shian stormed into the quarters, still trying to breathe without wanting to hyperventilate. She threw her duty jacket across the room and began to pace.::
Brock Dantara: ::Enters the quarters behind her. Walks up to her and gently strokes her arm::
Shall I get the Dr up here, Baby?
Shian Taris: No! ::her voice was louder than she'd expected. She turned to him:: You knew before we headed for Angel One what we might be finding there. You must have had great faith in me to not stumble when I found out. ::she was still seething a bit:: I had the ship on manual. I was in the slipstream on manual!
Brock Dantara: And you did what you had to do and you did it well.
I was afraid if I announced it right off the bat, you might feel this way. I felt that holding back your focus was better. By the time you knew, you had no choice.... you had to act and you did.
You are the most qualified person we have at the Helm. No one could have maneuvered her like you did. I didn't want to give you time to think too much. If you're upset with me, I'm sorry and I'm responsible for it. But it worked. And this was something you HAD to do.
Shian Taris: ::she detested the use of the title of helm, she'd never liked it, and it was even more detestable now:: You're d**ned lucky I didn't let the ship drift into the side of the slipstream. You're lucky I didn't just get up and walk off the bridge. I did what I did for the sake of the ship, and the hundreds of people on this ship. You, who are most important to me, I was furious with you!
Brock Dantara: I knew you would be. I wasn't planning on this. It happened and we did what we had to do. The People on Angel One needed us. You want to be angry with me. I understand...
and I don't blame you.
Shian Taris: ::she sat down in a chair and buried her face in her hands. She hated feeling like this. And yelling at Brock did not make her feel any better. She took a few moments to just sit there and breathe.:: I undertand that they needed us. I understand why you didn't tell everyone straight off.
::she sighed::
Brock Dantara: I want to tell you something. If you don't face them. If you hide at the mention of their names, then you will have those dream for the rest of your life!
and that thought is unbearable to me. I love you, Shian, that's why I did this. I know my wife. ::Picked her head up so she would look at him::
Shian Taris: Do you think I want that, Brock? Do you? I don't. But I was in no way ready for what you dropped on me while I was at that console. ::she looked at him, still so upset that tears were formed in her eyes::
Brock Dantara: My wife is not a weakling! I married a strong woman! You hurt them, Shian! You killed them! WE Killed them today! US together. You are not fighting alone anymore!
Shian Taris: ::she shook her head:: No, I didn't. I maneuvered a starship.
Brock Dantara: Yes you did. and you did it well. Maneuvering is part of combat. You made that victory possible! We did!
Shian Taris: I played only one part in this. The victory goes to you and your command.
Brock Dantara: All I know is this. Those things hurt my wife. And they are going to pay for what they did to you. Why don't you get angry at them? You know how I always said I wished they took me instead? Well they couldn't!
Shian Taris: ::She looked into his eyes.:: Because there's no need. ::Her voice softened, and she sighed:: There's no reason to be angry with beings that are incapable of understanding what they've done.
Brock Dantara: McCoy just found something out. Ardanans have an enzyme in their body chemistry. The imposters can't use it. It's toxic to them. but not us. During the fight it was put through the ventilation system. You know what that means? If they come onto this ship, they die! I can have the Dr inject you with the enzyme it's harmless to you. They can't touch you with that in your system. They can't hurt you anymore, Shian!
Shian Taris: ::She listened to him, tried to grasp what he was saying.:: You mean, it's kind of like a protective shield?
Brock Dantara: Well, yes. They use our DNA to replicate us and fool us. If they do now, it will be like acid to them. Toxic to them but not us. This is the key I've been looking for!
::He squatted down to look at her:: Shian I did what I did because I love you. I will protect you with my life. But I won't shelter you. I WILL NOT let you live in fear anymore! I married a fighter, d**nit! And you just proved that you still are. Don't short change yourself.
Shian Taris: ::She smiled at him a little bit through her tears:: Well, I'm still here, aren't I?
Brock Dantara: Yes we all are, my love.
Shian Taris: Look, it's not that I was mad at you. I was upset that I wasn't more prepared for it.: I've been working on being comfortable at flight control again. I hadn't given any thought to possibilities of encountering them again, at least not right now. And I was having some trouble adjusting. I corrected it, and was quick enough not to overcorrect, but I nearly did run us into the side of the slipstream tunnel
Brock Dantara: I know. I wasn't expecting this either. Matt called me and said get going. there was no time for explanations and breifings. I had faith in you.
Shian Taris: And that scared me more than those Impostors ever could.
Brock Dantara: I've always had faith in you.
Shian Taris: ::she leaned forward and kissed him:: I'm glad that you do. Because I don't think I could get up every morning and do what I do without your faith in me.
Brock Dantara: Shian, anyone going into battle is scared. You are no different. I was scared, too. But I knew this had to be done.
Shian Taris: Brock, I'm not talking about being scared to go into battle.
Brock Dantara: What, then?
Shian Taris: I'm taking about being scared that I was going to cause the death of this crew, cause the destruction of this ship... YOUR ship, because I froze up. That's what worried me the most. And that's why I was so d**ned focused on getting to that ship once we found it.
Brock Dantara: You did the right thing. and we beat the hell out of them! When those torpedoes cmae out and we fired on them, all I was thinking was, This is what you get for hurting my wife! This is where you start paying! For her and the others who didn't make it! We were lucky Shian. We survived. How many were not?
Shian Taris: ::she smiled a bit:: You were thinking retribution. I was thinking about the safety of this ship and crew. I knew I couldn't let my actions be the cause of it's destruction. I couldn't. It's funny...
I thought once I met up with any Impostors again, I'd be ready to be angry with them and let them know how angry I was. But, when it came down to it, I wasn't even thinking about them at all.
Brock Dantara: You were thinking of the ship and crew. as you shouls. So was I. even though I had a personal stake. We didn't do anything rash. Those bastards never could take us one on one. Shian. There are more out there. not that many but some, according to Mark We have to wipe them out. we have to make sure they don't do this to anyone again. We have to make sure that what was done to you, no one else has to go through!
Shian Taris: ::She nodded:: I'm glad you kept your head. And you knew exactly how to get to them. You can keep doing that. But, do me a favor? ::she said softly::
Brock Dantara: Anything
Shian Taris: Don't make this about retaliation. If we go up against any of them again, make it about protecting those who might still be in danger, but don't make it about getting back at them for me. I'm here. I made it. Thanks to Captain Riker, a lot of us made it. And I can only hope that they are faring as well as I am. I can only hope that they have a spouse that waited for them and that is helping them to see through this. So don't make it about me. Make it about not letting it happen again.
Brock Dantara: ::Nods:: This is not just about me. Or us. But Troglytes do have their own code of vengeance. just as the Klingons and many other races do. If one hurts or kills the mate of a Troglyte he is entitled to exact revenge. But as I said, If we don't stop them, wipe them out, they'll just start again. Shian, when the Guardian blew up, Those bastards were shooting escape pods! Klingons wouldn't do that, nor would Romulans. that is an act of cowardice!
Even the Borg are more human than they are
Shian Taris: ::she listened, still hearing the anger in his voice, though it had calmed some:: I know.
Brock Dantara: You are my wife! anyone who hurts you is going to envoke my wrath! You would do it for me wouldn't you?
Shian Taris: Of course I would! How could you think I wouldn't? But listen to me. This is what I've had to think about, I've had to realize. Dr. McCoy was right. They don't understand. They can't figure it out. They don't know how to deal with the emotion of love. There is so much that this... race.. doesn't understand. So becoming angry over certain points is a waste of energy, pure and simple. They don't understand, but they don't deserve to, either. Just rid the galaxy of as many of them as we can, all of them, if it's possible. Once they're gone, we can start to rebuild the mistrust and the fears of those who fell prey to them. We can be the ones to help them rebuild their lives, by the example of our own lives.
Brock Dantara: That is a wonderful thought. Mybe what worked for us will work for others.
Shian Taris: ::she smiled:: if we can get through this and be stronger for it, then so can they.
Brock Dantara: ::He sat next to her and took her hand:: We will do all of those things. But first we have a job to do. We will beat them together. And we know just how. and before you say anything, we're not doing anything rash. We know where they are. and we're going to have help.
Shian Taris: ::Her face showed a bit of concern:: So what are we going to do?
Brock Dantara: I'm going to contact Lt Col. Chang Fei Hung. We're going to get as many task force ships in on this as we can. Mark is bringing his ship. Orien Raintree and the Khitomer are joining us. along with a firend of Ambassador Koval. A warbird Commander. The Romulans hate those things more than we do.
Shian Taris: ::Her eyes were a little wider at this:: That's a lot of ships.
Brock Dantara: We don't know exactly what their numbers are. so I want a Battle group. we have to overwhelm them. find their base and destroy that, too. We can't allow them to construct another portal network.
Shian Taris: ::She nodded:: That's true. That could only lead to another war.
Brock Dantara: That was their main tactical advantage. without it, they are not that formidable. They only attack if they feel they are at the advantage. when that changes, they run.
Shian Taris: As obvious by what we've seen here.
Brock Dantara: ::He put his arms around her:: Baby I'm sorry I had to do what I did, but it was for you. you had to do this. you had to prove that you could get right back up on the horse again. I know you didn't feel ready. who ever does? I didn't feel ready to be chief engineer as an ensign. I wasn't ready to be an exec. I didn't think I was ready to command this ship.
Kelmar once told me that if you wait until you are ready, you may be waiting forever.
Shian Taris: ::She leaned her head against his shoulder and smiled:: I know, Brock. I know. At least now I know that I can still do what I need to do. They didn't rattle me that badly. And, for the record, I think you're a great captain.
Brock Dantara: ::Laughs:: Great Captains are just frightened men who make bad decisions at good moments. And no, they didn't rattle you that badly. They only made you think they did. This was what you needed to shake that off. And you're still the only Pilot that was crazy enough to go through the wormhole at warp!
Shian Taris: ::His shoulder felt good beneath her head. She was grateful to still have this to come home to. She smiled:: And I'd do it again, if I had to.
Brock Dantara: Yes you would. And I'm grateful to have my crazy pilot back where she belongs!
Shian Taris: ::She grinned, nuzzling her head into the crook of his shoulder even further than it was:: I'm grateful to be where I belong... with you, Brock.
Brock Dantara: I'm glad we talked and I'm even glad you got angry Baby, you know that I have a propensity for surprises, right? Well I have one now.
Shian Taris: Mmmhmm... ::she murmured against him:: What is it?
Brock Dantara: ::He stood up, taking her by the hand, gently leading her to the rear of the quarters. He touched a panel and the wall slid open, revealing a small room. as it it lit up, there stood before them, a redwood Hot tub.:: Whirlpool tub and some pure Ardanan mineral spirits. How about I give you the best massage you ever had?
Shian Taris: ::she walked with him and looked at it in amazement:: when did you do this? ::she grinned:: That sounds like the most perfect idea after today
Brock Dantara: ::Smiles:: I was hoping you'd like it. as far as when I did this, I didn't. It was here when I bought the place. ::Laughs:: I haven't used it. I've been saving it for the right time, and I think this is the perfect time to take this thing on her maiden voyage.
On Ardana we have hotsprings in certain areas, It is believed that they have healing properties.
Shian Taris: ::she was enthusiastic about this:: Well, then, let's find out if it works.... ::she smiled to him and kissed him::
Brock Dantara: ::Kisses her in return:: Now if wer'e gonna do this, we're gonna do this right. hang on one second. ::Rushes over to the galley area, brings something out of the replicator::
Shian Taris: ::She looked after him, curious as to what he was referring to::
Brock Dantara: Here we go, my love. fresh strawberries, whipped cream, and a bottle of springwine. ::Puts the tray on a holder over the lip of the tub.:: You're gonna love this massage, baby.
Shian Taris: ::She grinned, shaking her head a bit:: Of course. How else would it be absolutely perfect? Oh, wait ::she stopped and pulled him to her:: Now, it's perfect.
Brock Dantara: MMMM very perfect..... ::Starts to unzip his jacket:::
Shian Taris: ::She began to take off her uniform, and with it, all the stress of what had happened earlier. She was going to spend some quality time with her husband, and no Impostor was going to interfere with that.... ever::
Brock Dantara: You Know, I could get a gig on Risa doing massages. I don't need this job ::Laughs:: but I'm afraid you've got exclusive rights to my services.
Shian Taris: ::She winked at him and grinned:: I certainly hope so.
