"Alright, I'll let the computer finish the scan up and take a few blood sampls from you. It won't harm you or the baby the amount I am taking. I am going to check to see if everything is fine that there are enough of the nessary hormons in your blood to support the baby as well as to make sure that there is no infection present."
He then went about taking the blood samples from her arm very quickly so not to drag out the hypoing too much. He wasn't one to waste time in matters like these. Once the computer got the scan done he gently helpted her to sit up on the bio bed.
"I can tell you the results of the blood screening in a few but for now I can tell you what the scan did show us or more or less give you the padd with the information."
He sat down in a chair next to the bio bed.
"But first I want to know if you want to know the sex of your baby, so the information can be adjusted accordingly."

I just hope I can handle it, I just don't know how I am gonna tell my father Admiral Kushani or my brothers. They always tried to protect me from everything. '

He considered her words for a moment and then handed her the padd to look over.
"You're father and brothers should be able to support you through this if you are any indication of what makes up a Kushani. Not to mention you have medical staff here who are more then willing to lend a hand or two in both you're welfair.
The scans indicate that you are going to have a very healthy baby boy. He's four months along in development and sucking his thumb. All very good signs. The blood tests have shown you to be in perfict health for this and gaining the proper weight to allow for your boy to grow strong. If the father of the child is in service now and you would like to have him notified of the news we can pass along that information to him. If not then we will respect your wishs and carry on as though he has no part in the child's life."
He paused for a moment to collect his thoughts and his breath.
" I can tell you now Ms. Kushani it won't be easy raising him but you won't be in it alone. For when you join the service you join a family, and that family is your shipmates. You also are very lucky to have your birth father and brothers to lean on as well during this very happy and ruff time.
I am going to have the replicator make the aloted medication avlable for you as well as the supploments that I want you to take to insure that Jr. is getting all the things he needs to be healthy just like his mommy, and don't worry you'll be a great Mom. The comptuer has alot of resources on parenting. If you have any questions now about anything let me know and I'll answer. If not you're free to go and spread the news."

He stood as she did to be around to offer a hand if she needed it. Seeing that she was settled properly on her feet he responded to her question.
" I want to see you within another month. That is if you do not have anymore complications before then."
He smiled at her poiltly before adding almost absentminded like.
"In other words you're free to go in hopes that it will be another month before we see you again in here in sickbay for any medical reason."

He put forth a suggetion to the Captain as to how to do that given the currents status of Ms. Kushani and when she will have to be off duty and for how long. He forward a copy onto the Commander as well as she would have to make rotations accrodingly. Once he was done he sat at the desk and looked it over before sending the parts to the approperate people.

Post by Commander Christina Rivers on Aug 13, 2008 13:36:48 GMT -5
Spock: He came into sickbay after being on board a few hours. He was of course going to consult the physician on board as to how to proceed with his understudy."Computer, locate the Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: ::Steps out of the office.:: You rang? Well, you gonna just stand there looking pretty or say hello?
Spock: He quirked a brow at the Doctor, "I was going to greet you however I was unaware I rang anything as I did not hear ringing."
Dr McCoy EMH: It's an expression. Old Earth. So do what do owe the honor, "Mr. Ambassador?"
Spock: "I am here to request the services of the chief medical officer on board this vessel in concerns to my understudy. As I have been summoned here to help her in a time of need."
Dr McCoy EMH: You're talking to the Chief Medical Officer!
Spock: "I was merely stating my intention for being here as you requested me to do so. However, now that I know I am speaking to the chief medical officer I will go into further detail. I was wondering if there has been any recent activity on board that would be considered unusual and may impact the mental standings of the crew."
Dr McCoy EMH: ::Thinks a moment:: Not really, we just did a first contact. The Captain avoided a war. And the little incident that I had. I don't see that as having any traumatic effect on anyone, except maybe me. Spock! It's me! How can you just stand there and not even acknowledge that it's me! You haven't even insulted me yet, for God's sake!
Spock: He quirked a brow at the Doctor, " I am well aware of who I am addressing. That is why I have answered your questions thoroughly and gone straight to the matter at hand. Knowing full well deviation from it would possibly agitate you more emotionally then what you already are just by seeing me. Since Vulcan's are incapable of emotions I have no outburst to really demonstreight for you."
Dr McCoy EMH: But do you understand what I am? That I'm not just an extrapolation of algorhythms based on Leonard McCoy? But that isn't what I am. I AM Leonard McCoy, Spock. Illogical as that may be. And I can prove it...very illogically
Spock: "Fascinating, I did not know medical science has evolved enough to preserve a person to the point that they can exist beyond that of the physical body."
Dr McCoy EMH: Isn’t that what you did? You "died" once didn't you? Don’t Vulcan’s have a hall of Katras? And do I need to remind you who held on to yours for you? And who nearly got put in the Federation Twinkie factory for trying to get you back to Mt Selaya.
Spock: "Doctor may I remind you that you were a willing participant in that endeavor. I did not force you to do anything. As for my comment. I was merely stating it in respect to Federation endvors in the field of median."
Dr McCoy EMH: First, I wasn’t a 'willing participant' you did that right before you went into the engine room of the Enterprise. Spock, before I...my body died, I had participated in an experiment with a variation of an engramatic multitronic enhancer. It....recorded my mind, then uploaded the data into an advanced bio-neural processor. Everything McCoy was, I am. Everything he knew, I know We did with technology, what you people do with Vulcan mysticism. And don’t tell me "Vulcan’s are incapable of emotion" Because that's poppy and we both know it!
Spock: "I have been spending most of the past few years in Romulan space protecting Federation interests. That is why I was unaware of such advances in median. As for the past, I willing distorted the facts to see if you could put it in the right. That was my way of testing what you were saying to be as truth. I see no other logical explanation to you being here other then what you explained and have demonstreighted. However, as I stated before Vulcan's are incapable of feeling emotions, so the outburst you are trying to provoke me into displaying will not work, Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: You pointed eared, arrogant hobgoblin, I held your marbles for you, remember? I felt every emotion you ever felt! All the pain you've been keeping inside you like a d**n pressure cooker! I saw everything, Spock. The little boy who came home crying, beaten up by the other boys who called you a barbarian and a pink skinned Earther. And there were only 2 to comfort you. Your Mother, and your pet Sehlat, I'Chaya You were ashamed of yourself because you didn’t act proper in your Father's eyes. he pushed you away and you blamed yourself. You were a child and you needed your Father's love!
Spock: "Doctor, you say you know me. Then you will know my response to your bring up of my past. I was young back then and undisciplined. My reaction was expected, just as now my inaction is expected. I am Vulcan; Vulcan's do not experience emotions at my age."
Dr McCoy EMH: The hell you don't you just hide them! You've gotten so good at hiding them that you don’t even realize they're there. What about the second time we went to the planet of the Time Guardian? An accident took place and you cancelled your own existence. You corrected it, but I-Chaya died. And that hurt you. I felt it!. You loved him, and that effected longer than you know, and more profoundly than you realize. How many years did it take you to get complete with your Father? He wasn't even alive. If it werent for jean-Luc Picard, that may never have happened. Now you and I have a chance to be complete. Spock, you thought I had died until now. Isn't there anything you wished you had told me? Or said to me?
Spock: "Your analysis about what you thought I was feeling during those past experiences is fascinating Doctor, however, inaccurate that they maybe. I came here to speak to you about the here and now not the past. I have an understudy who is not feeling well, and I am at a loss as for why. I came here to ask your assistance in the matter."
Dr McCoy EMH: You arrogant, pig headed son of a b*tch! If the past is not important, why do Vulcan’s honor their history and traditions, so? Why is there even a hall of katras if the past isn't important! And if you're referring to Commander Rivers, maybe her problem is that she spent too much time with Vulcan’s!
Spock: " I was referring to Commander Rivers as my understudy yes. She has been increasingly at unrest and isolating herself from the rest of the crew. I have been trying to instruct her on how to bond with her crewmates but she seems unwilling to participate. Curling up into a ball and complaining about abdominal pains. It is concerning that she has this erratic behavior."
Dr McCoy EMH: I'm concerned myself. there's no real medical reason for this. I can only conclude that must psychosomatic in nature Maybe a mind meld would be the best thing for her.
Spock: Spock's eyes told McCoy he was tired but his voice remained steady and dry like always, "If I did already try that and say that the lack of sleep and adequate nutrition and abdominal pains are the only things that are persistence that are concerning in nature would there be a medical reason then?"
Dr McCoy EMH: Well, Dr Conner usually handles her case. I know that she had a miscarriage not long ago. But she's healed up form that. I could run some more checks and cross reference them with Dr Conner's findings
Spock: “That would be most wise if you can get her down here. I find it hard to believe that she would be shutting me out after all these years on instruction, but she may very well be. In which case a new instruction has to be found to guide her. Perhaps since logic no longer appeals to her she can find her way in your world of emotions, Doctor." Dr McCoy EMH: That's her choice. I can't make those decisions. But she is Human. It may be too hard for her to follow your mental discipline. We don't think like you do. Maybe she's pressuring herself because she's afraid of being a disappointment to her teacher. Sound familiar?
Spock: " She needs to eat Doctor and take care of herself regardless of what path she chooses. She does have a choice I am part human and am able to follow the Vulcan way of life. However, my humanity gives me the capability to understand if she chooses not to. If she chooses to deal with her past her own way."
Dr McCoy EMH: Trying to get her to eat is like wrestling a Mugato. If she doesn’t improve, I'll have no choice to make a full report to Starfleet medical.
Spock: "When she wakes in the morning I will have her report directly to you. As for my visit. I will leave now as I have addressed my concerns. Perhaps we can continue our colorful debate about emotions some other time Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: Only if you admit that I'm right
Spock: "Vulcan's do not experience emotions."
Dr McCoy EMH: No. they bury them.
Spock: "As you wish Doctor. I am entirely too drained from the mind meld with Commander Rivers to debate you further on the matter."
Dr McCoy EMH: You mean I got the last word? ::Smiles:: Ok, old friend. You go get some rest. You know where to find me And Spock........ Ever miss the old days?
Spock: Spock turned to leave but then sighed and turned around to answer the Doctor's question, "How many times do I have to tell you Doctor Vulcan's are not nostalgic." He then turned back to the door and left sickbay

Spock: He came into sickbay with Christina in his arms because the time for her to come passed and she did not follow through with her promise to him. He called out for his friend to help in the situation, "Bones, if you are here I need your assistance, Commander Rivers is unconscious."
Dr McCoy EMH: Of course, Spock. What happened? ::takes out tricorder::
Spock: He lays her down, " She became unresponsive to her door chime. I found her on her bed sweaty and unconscious. I can only surmise that she has become mentally exhausted from being physically pushed to her limits. However, I am not a Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: ::Activates the bio bed to take readings:: Well, what in God's name has pushed her to her "Physical limits"? ::Looks over the readings:: Spock, I'm sorry I didn't take her case from the start. I respected her privacy, But I thing She and Dr Conner are too close. You can't practice medicine objectively when there are personal feelings involved. Even I find that...illogical.
Spock: "You did what you thought was right and allowed two friends to take care of each other thinking that they would do so. Now that it has failed to come to pass you must step in as the objective party. She was pushed to her physical limit by her own choosing taking care of Dr. Conner on her off duty time and when she wasn't meditating with me to keep her mental condition under control. She refused to see reason in sleeping when her friend needed her assistance. I can not fault her for thinking in such a manner."
Dr McCoy EMH: I know, Spock. but she's human, not Vulcan. She isn't capable of those marathons you did without food and water. Like the time we had to leave Jim on that planet and stop that asteroid. We crippled the ship. I begged you to eat. But a human can't do that. we don't have the physical abilities of Vulcans.
Spock: " I did what I could to convince her to sleep and eat. She refused to see reason and even dismissed what I had to say. Her thoughts were on getting her friend well again. Nothing short of that would satisfy her. Just like nothing but success in that incident you spoke of would do for me."
Dr McCoy EMH: She has a very mild infection. That would account for a good bit of the fatigue. ::Gives her a Hypospray:: That should clear that up.
Spock: "I am relieved to know it is nothing serious. Even if it was something serious I knew she was and will always be in good hands with you around."
Dr McCoy EMH: A compliment, Spock? You must be angry with me ::Laughs:: She just needs to get some rest. I'm going to give her a cortical regenerative, and a sedative. other wise she won't stay in one place.
ChristinaRRivers: She started coming around and moaning a bit. "No...I'm fine."
Spock: Spock put a hand on her shoulder. "Rest we'll finish when you are well." He then looked at McCoy, "Do what you got to do. I trust your judgement completely Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: She'll be fine. How's it feel to have met your match in stubbornness? >XO> And you, you're staying and getting some rest! That's a medical order from the only one other than the Captain: who can give you an order! I'll stun you with a phaser if I have to, but you're not leaving this bed.
ChristinaRRivers: She took a deep breath and then responded, "Will I be allowed to be comfortable during this encampment?"
Spock: Spock raised a brow at her question but responded to McCoy, "I haven't got the slightest clue as to what you are meaning by saying that Doctor."
Dr McCoy EMH: Of course you don't/ >XO> What do you need to be more comfortable. The orderlies will get whatever you need.
ChristinaRRivers: "A bath...I feel like a wet dog, and for you to talk to Spock about his brooding its very unbecoming."
Dr McCoy EMH: Spock and I have an understanding that can't be described in words. and the shower room is right over there. You've already got some sedative in you so you can't be walking around. Crewman Delgado will take care of you.
ChristinaRRivers: She nodded, "Alright, I'll let someone help me this time, but only because I'm sleepy."
Dr McCoy EMH: Good. get some rest. Delgado will be along shortly.
ChristinaRRivers: She nodded and closed her eyes, "Keep Spock out of trouble for me."
Spock: "I am not the one that Doctor McCoy should be worried about right now Commander. I can go days without sleep."
Dr McCoy EMH: I tried to do that for 30 years. Why ruin a good thing?
ChristinaRRivers: She smiled and relaxed the sedative taking effect over here
Spock: "I believe now would be a good time to leave her to rest. I have been keeping vigil over her for a few days so forgive me if I am not myself.'
Dr McCoy EMH: Forget about it. ::Smiles::

Spock: "How can I forget about treating one of the most important people in my life like I did without at least apologizing for it." Dr McCoy EMH: Haven't we been through enough together to know that those words aren't necessary? Spock: "Perhaps your right, Doctor." He turned his attention from Christina to McCoy, " Call it what you will but some habits are hard to break." Dr McCoy EMH: ::Nods:: Spock. I've been having bad dreams lately. They manifested themselves through the holo matrix. The engineers say they have it locked down. Holograms don't dream, so they weren't expecting anything like that. Well maybe holograms don't, but I do. Spock whatever I am, whatever they did to me, don't let them do this to you. I know that this ship's captain needs me, the Crew needs me, and I've been doing good work here, But Spock, haven't you and I done our share? I.....died when it was time for me to die, only I didn't exactly die. Sometimes I'm just tired. I lived my life! And it was a d**n good one that I wouldn't trade for anything! Like Jim once said, "We've done our bit for King and Country" Spock I don't want to live forever! Spock, what exactly am I? Spock: " I do not know. You hold the emotions, memories, and thought of my friend, but yet you aren't him. The physical body has passed but yet my friend stands before me long after the time he was meant to. I am not a person of great medical knowledge and have kept myself in hiding for many years trying to solve that very problem of who or what we are. I can not tell you with any certainty what you are. All I know is who you are is Leonard McCoy. Every since I get from you is as if you were present physically. The emotions, memories, actions tell me who you are at the core. However, you need help I will give it within the power I have I will help you, but that is limited. I can not tell those who did this to you to undo it no more then I can, within good conscious, put and end to your desistance. I mourned for you when you passed and now seeing you before me again...I am just as baffled as you." Dr McCoy EMH: ::Nods:: Don't worry, I don't have a death wish or anything. But you have to admit, this is something that takes some getting used to. All I can ask you to do, is try to make sure they don't make any more "Me's" Spock: "I am sure they will listen to reason and those who made you in the first place are being told not to do it again. However, what little influence I have in the realm of diplomacy at this time will go in making sure that medical does not do this to another person." He got a bit unsteady on his feet but caught himself. " Tell me the truth Doctor about Commander Rivers. Is she alright?" Dr McCoy EMH: I think so. She needs to realize that she's not a Vulcan, and stop torturing herself a little. Right now, she's very dehydrated. the nurses will give her plenty of liquids to bring her fluid levels back to normal. Spock: He nods, "I've had to fight her much like we use to do with Jim when he was set his mind on something. That is why I was concerned. I see parts of him in her. I guess being old makes one more emotional." Dr McCoy EMH: There's nothing wrong with being old. It just means you're smart enough to have made it this far. Sometimes I miss being old. Even if I had the aches and pains, At leas I could have a few shots of Bourbon. Spock: " Perhaps there are advantages to being old but I am reaching an age in which I see shadows of the past everywhere I look. When I saw you here I thought I was hallucinating and suffering from the same disease my father died of. However, when you proved to me it was you there and not some hallucination apart of me was relieved." He rubbed his temples, " If there is anyway I can help you now in your current situation let me know and I will do it." Dr McCoy EMH: Well, You may be an Ambassador now, Spock, but you're still a scientist. Maybe you can define what kind of life form I am. Maybe there are ways to mix real thoughts in the data stream and not just make a copy of a person. And look at the implications of this, Are they going to start doing this to everyone? they could put us all into some archive where we're activated when our "Wisdom" is needed. What I am is a good ships Dr. I've always been one and now I will continue being one. This can be used for great things.... Or it can be very dangerous. In my position, I can't do much about it. You can. Your friend Ambassador Picard can. he certainly has pull with starfleet. Dr McCoy EMH: And one other thing Spock... Could you.. Somehow tell Joanna that I'm fine? I'm afraid to even contact her. Why put her through all this? Spock: "You are a registered member of this crew what makes you think that she doesn't already know. I will take on this case not only because of personal reasons but because I believe Ambassador Picard would enjoy the challenge rather then rotting of old age. I will tell Joanna myself if she doesn't already know you are alright. This will be my official coming back from seclusion on Romulus." Dr McCoy EMH: Thank you. You don't know how much I appreciate this. ::He held up his hand in the Vulcan gesture:: I am, and forever shall be your friend. Spock: He raised his hand back to McCoy, "I know and the same will be of me for you."

"So, are we checking up on the little guy or do you got some medical issue you are wanting to hash out with the old doger down here."
He went about activating the bio bed sensors she was sitting on and pulling a medical triquarter out of his lab coat to begin the scan. He was in a good mood today and if his bad jokes weren't enough to prove it his normally very meloncolly way of talking was now swichted to a more chearful baraton.
