Here are some tips on the symolism we use in the SIM.
1. state who you are at the beginning of each post. CO,XO,CENG, CSCI, etc. 2.show who you are talking to. CO>CSEC> Security alert, all decks!-(also, this indicates that the CO and CSEC are in the same room) CO+T+CENG> I need warp power now! (This indicates that the CO and CENG are not in the same room. in this case, one is on the bridge, the other in ENGRG.)
@xo>CO> Away team to Polaris, Transport successful. ( the symbol at the beginning of the post shows that the XO is not on the ship. She would either on a planet's surface or on another ship.)
Regular prose would indicate speech, as shown in the examples above.
::Enters sickbay, looking for the Dr.:: (This indicates actions, or thoughts.)
CO>::Exits the turbolift onto the bridge.:: >XO> Report! (This shows actions combined with speech, showing that the CO entered the bridge, and then spoke to the XO.)
CENG>::Silently prays that the plasma injectors cool down in time to avoid the Nebula. Continues to realign the magnetic constrictors.:: +T+>CO> I'll have a status report in a minute, Captain, I need to finish realigning the constrictors, then I have to check the plasma flow regulators. (This example shows the CENG's thoughts and actions, then the symbol shows that He/ she is calling the bridge.)
I decided to go over these not to be a pain, but because I am in another SIM that does NOT use tags at all. If you have a SIM going with people you have Simed with for a long time, this can work since everyone knows each other. In the case with this particular SIM, I and some of the other members are quite often lost as to who is talking to who, where anyone is, and so on. These symbols make it easier for everyone, especially me.
Bear in mind where you are on the ship and where others are and it avoids confusion. For example if two of the crew are in sickbay, and there is a conversation going on the bridge, the two that are in SB are not going to be participating in the conversation taking place on the bridge. Also, having your sn and your character name is preferable. When I join a new SIM, I make a new character, and an AIM sn for it. This takes roughly five minutes.

It is not my wish to nag people to post. Posting Socially IC in areas of the ship, or RPing is optional. A Starfleet officer is required to keep a duty log. Period. A lot can be done in five to ten minutes right after the SIM. While some people are fanatics, and prefer to write intricately detailed logs, that is not required. It's nice to have detailed log, but all I ask for is 1 to 2 paragraphs. No one expects you to rewrite "Gone with the Wind". There are two kinds of logs that can go into your log thread. 1. Duty Logs 2. Personal Logs. Duty logs are objective. It is simply a brief summary of the SIM from your point of view. Personal logs are optional. There you can write how you felt about the situation, or anything you character wants to talk about. Such as: Alter home, or to a spouse, or friend. Things pertaining to the history of your character, issues that may be taking place on your character's home planet, your character may be developing feelings for another character on the ship. WHY DO WE NEED TO POST? For one thing, Star Trek is not Star Wars. SW was basically a "Space Western". A "Shoot 'em up". Star Trek, while having battles from time to time, attempts do deal with issues that have what I call "Human Truth". Issues that actually pertain to us, and things that we can take with us in our lives. For Example, The character of Brock Dantara is from the Planet Ardana.(TOS: "The Cloud Minders") Brock is of Troglyte descent. The Troglytes were little more than slaves until it was discovered that a colorless, odorless gas emanating from raw Zenite had an effect on the synapses of the brain. The quote on Brock's avatar on the boards was spoken by Mr Spock and those words changed the face of a planet. Did you know that this episode was an attack on apartheid government?

As you all know, there is a "Drop down" color menu for your posting.
I have recently added the drop down font menu, so you now have a choice of several fonts as well as colors for your posts.
The colors on the menu are the standard colors. There are other colors that can be used on our board. They are as follows:
AMBER
AQUA
GOLD
HOT PINK
LIGHT BLUE
LIGHT SLATE GREY
MISTY ROSE
OLIVE
PLUM
SADDLE BROWN
SALMON
SIENNA
SKY BLUE
TAN
VIOLET
FIREBRICK
"OK so what do I do now?"
It's very easy. You simply have to enter the HTML code manually.
First, pick out a color. Go to the post or line that you want in this color. At the beginning of the post, using red as an example, put this:
Stay tuned for part 2!

I'll just go over a few posting rules again, so everyone's on the same page. 1. tag your character CO,XO,CENG,CSCI, etc. 2.::This is used for actions and thoughts:: 3.CO+T+CENG> ::Hits the Comm panel:: I need full power now! This shows the CO talking to the CENG who is in another part of the ship. 3.@xo+T+CO> Transport successful, Sir.--The@ indicates that the XO is not on the ship. 4.~My mind....to your mind....~ This is symbol is often used to represent telepathy. Remeber.... The CO and XO write the SL's. We are usually trying to lead the crew in a certain direction. If you have an idea for something for your character to do during SIM, IM the XO, ChristinaRRivers, or HELM, jarnett06 ***Do not make action posts that change the situation or the SL*** Posting. All officers must keep a log. Personal Logs are optional, as is posting in the threads of the board. 1 duty log per SIM is the minimal posting requirement and is necessary to maintain officer status. If a registered crew member does not wish to post a log or on the boards, but only SIM, that is permissible. That crewman will be given an NCO rank. As the Stories progress, each of the crew will be featured. everyone gets a chance to shine. Some SL's will be focused, and some less restrictive. That is part of the purpose of posting on the boards. The more you post, the more we know about your character. I may derive an idea for an SL that revolves around you from what you post about your character. ***Starfleet Command HQ Board*** This is a separate Board SIM that takes place on Earth. participation in that is purely optional. See you on Tues 9:30 PM est. If you need an avatar for your character, let me know. or if you would like a custom signature
